SHANGRI-LAS \"GOLDEN HITS\" 1970s U.K. Philips 12 track best of LP featuring \"Leader Of The Pack\" & \"Remember\". Produced by Shadow Morton. Stereo 6336 215. M-/M.

In addition to Phil Spector, another eccentric Rock Svengali figure of the 1960s was Shadow Morton. He wrote, produced & mentored the Shangri-Las, a group of girls from Queens, NY into arguably the best \"White Chick\" group of the era. Featuring the pouty narration & vocals of Betty Weiss, they created unmatched mini-operas that truly struck a nerve. They hit big with their very first record \"Remember (Walking In The Sand)\" going to #5 in June, 1964 & then followed with the #1 death disc \"Leader Of The Pack\" later in the year. The girls managed another Top Ten smash with \"I Can Never Go Home Anymore\" reaching #6 in 1965 but their last major opus \"Past Present & Future\" only got to #59 in 1966. Another notable single contained here is their third single from 1964, the a-typical uptempo \"Give Him A Great Big Kiss\" which peaked at #18. Shadow Morton went on to produce Janis Ian\'s \"Society Child\", the Vanilla Fudge, Mott The Hoople & the second album by the New York Dolls but the glory days of the Shangri-Las ended in 1966 although the remaining members still sometimes show up on the oldies circuit. These records sound great today & this best of compilation contains some songs that were not on their original Red Bird LPs. .

12 tracks- Leader Of The Pack, Past Present & Future, Train From Kansas City, Heaven Only Knows, Remember (Walking In The Sand), Out In The Streets, I Can Never Go Home Anymore, Give Him A Great Big Kiss, Long Live Our Love, Give Us Your Blessings, Sophisticated Boom Boom & What Is Love.

Laminated cover is intact & retains its original gloss with no fading, writing, tears or split seams. Only negligible corner wear detract it from a MINT grading. Record sounds great with no scratches or scuffs, vinyl looks nearly new. Very few spins on this disc- rated MINT. The dark blue w/silver print stereo Philips labels look great & indicate that it is a British pressing from the early 1970s. No UPC.
