Comments: An exhibition quality Meiji Japanese Satsuma vase by Ryozan. The piece isdecoratedwith two scene panels, one featuring Geisha/Bijin women and children in a room, surrounded by ornate Japanese decorations. They are dressed in typical Japanese clothing, with colourful silk Kimono's and appointed with kanzashi (traditional Japanese hair ornaments).

On the reverse side, the panel is filled with floral decorations including Wisteria vines, colourful Chrysanthemums and other native Japanese flowers. The detail of the flowers is exquisite and the enamel colours are bright and vibrant. The work is all detailed with fine gold outlining, which adds an element of depth and gives the image it's fine, sharp, details.

The borders of the vase arefilled with a cobalt blue glaze which is then decorated with gold patterns on top. These include flowers and Japanese instruments. The vase is signed to the base.
