We have for sale a SIGNED William Blackshear \"Night In Day\" sculpture. 183 /3500 1ST EDITION From 1998It is incredibly rare to find one of Blackshear\'s sculptures signed by the sculptor himself.The piece measures 14 3/4\" by 11\" and is in great condition. There is no box but it will be carefully wrapped and shipped.The base wooden base does have a few minor scratches on it. A wood furniture pen could clean those up nicely.The only blemish on the sculpture is a dark smudge on the back of the piece in the night sky.
About the piece:
\"Night In Day\" first appeared as a painting which introduced Blackshear\'s unique Afro Noveau style - a style heavily influenced by Art Noveau and Art Deco. This allegorical design shows night as a man wrapped in daylight. Blackshear uses color and symbolism to create both nighttime and daytime. Swarovski crystals are used to embellish the night sky.\"Night in Day\" was my breakthrough painting. I guess you could say that this was the first piece that helped me get in touch with who I\'m becoming. At the time I created it, I was overwhelmed with freelance work. I was tired of being a workaholic and not living my life. I was finally able to do a painting for a small Society of Illustrators art show in San Francisco and this was it. Someone suggested that it was me emerging from darkness into light. I hadn\'t thought of it that way, but it made sense.\"Another angle is that may be my new way of looking at things. After I did this painting, every piece I painted from that point on was different. I had a whole new look, a new goal, a new vision and a new reason for what I was doing. What was so cool about the painting was that I saw it completely in my head before I even did it. That was the first time that ever happened to me.\"
