SMALL LATE 19TH CENTURY SCOTTISH ALPHABET SAMPLER BY KATE SHERE AGED 10 - 1871:

Small mid/late 19th century Scottish sampler by Kate Shere aged 10 - 1872. Worked in cotton thread on gauze, this sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The gauze is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns finishing with Kate\'s detailsin the bottom section \"Kate Shere. a10. Berwick 1872.\" The whole thing is then surrounded by a neat geometric border.The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, darker down and across the centre, presumably from where the sampler has been folded this way for many years. The colours of the thread are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Kate first stitched it.Measures 8 1/4\" x 11 3/4\"
