We estimate that this antique snuff mull would date to the 1820s. This hand-made piece has an animal’s mottled amber coloured shell top with a sterling silver (not marked but tested) thistle motif. There is a sterling silver collar around the top script engraved with the original owner’s name; “James Thomson”. It also has a small sterling silver escutcheon to the front face engraved with the initials “JT ” in script.
