SPANISH COLONIAL 18th Century OIL PAINTING on TIN MADONNA & CHILD ANTIQUE WOOD :

This stunning 18th Century (?) SPANISH COLONIAL OIL PAINTING on TIN features a serious MADONNA holding the standing CHILD. Each of them have gold crowns on their heads. The MADONNA has on a necklace, earrings and a ring. The CHILD appears to have a lace-like garment around his body. The dark black cape trimmed in lace, around the MADONNA appears to have some letters painted on the near bottom left side...maybe a M and R?( I am not sure if this is the artist\'s \"signature\" or not.) The MADONNA wears a rich red gown also trimmed in a lace.
The painting is in what I am sure is its original period hand made wood frame. The worn wood has much of its gilt paint though it has darkened significantly over the centuries. There is a flat, seemingly unpainted area about the size of a postage stamp to the left of the MADONNA\'S head. In some of the photos it appears there is a silvery look behind each figure. The paint is intact. There numerous stars all around the figures. The overall feel is quite dark, indicating a build up over the years perhaps.
The wood frame is 9 3/8\" by 7 1/4\". The painting on tin is 6 3/8\" by 4 3/8\". On the paper covering the back of the painting, someone has written \"18th century/Spanish colonial/ptg of Madonna +/Child on tin Antique frame.\" That is what I am basing my description on.
This is a wonderful piece...museum quality.
