Spectacular quarter-plate daguerreotype of a doting father and his three children. This is one of the most endearing images that you will find on the market. The daguerreotypist has obviously taken great pains to set the stage, however without the children’s adoration of their dad this would have been impossible to create. The youngest is obviously daddy’s little girl but the boys shift as close as possible and in a tender impromptu moment the younger lad grabs at his brother’s coat and leans with full force against his brother’s back. The photographer has given attention to the smallest detail as the father’s legs hide all but the seat of the chair, which creates a wonderful illusion of a floating effect. From behind we can also see that it was a beautiful sunny day as light is streaming through the skylight and onto the floor. There are also some very light hues to the sitters’ faces. Housed the image in a full leather case.
