Stunning Original Bisque Head French? Doll C. 1880's For Sale
Up for sale is this stunning, I think French, bisque headed doll. There is no damage/hairline cracksto the head. She is in her original clothes, stylish frock, stockings, shoes etc. Her face is truly beautiful. Blue paperweight fixed eyes, feathered eyebrows & eyelashes, cupids bow mouth with 3 tiny teeth, dimple in chin, ears not pierced. The arms & legsare movable, but not jointed from knees. The body looks to be papier mache with some flaking to both hands. I don't think this is damage, just the ravages of time.Bisque is a lovely fine colour with slight blush to cheeks. Her costume is original, silk jabot, lace lapels and lace hemon frock. I don't believe clothing has ever been removed. I have unpicked small section of shoulder of frock to see if there is a mark, alas, can't see anything. I can't take clothes off without doing serious damage and will leave this to the buyer. She has lace trimmed cotton pantaloons, muslin petticoat and stiffened netwith lace edge 2nd petticoat, black cotton fish net stockings and small black leather shoes with buckles & bows. She wears a jaunty black felt fashion hat with a feather & bow. The hat has detached from the head with the pate. Again I'll leave this alone, it would only need re-glueing back to head. I believe the blond hair is human and is in ringlets, but also would need re-styling. The doll is about16 inches or 41 cms tall. She comeswith part of her original box minus the lid.
It is hard to find dolls still in their original clothing. She has probably survived due to the fact that the clothes are all sewn on with no way of removing unless you start unpicking seams. She could do with a good clean and her clothes as well; again I don't know enough about this to try. Slight fading to the red dress due to age of doll.
If anyone can shed any info on her maker, I would love to know
Doll will be packed with utmost care. I have described this doll to the very best of my ability, she is an old doll and if you are looking for "pristine" don't offer. Thanks

Just an added bit of information which I forgot to include in the original text, her bisque head is quite translucent when you look from the inside. You can see the shadow of your finger when head is held up to light. The word "Quality" springs to mind.
