This is an absolutely breathtaking, large, rare, working,hand carved, musical, animated cuckoo clock that was createdinthe Black Forest about 40 years ago in what was then, \"West Germany\" by \"Anton Schneider (and Sons) Sohne,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. This large clock has a rare 3 bird design and is made entirely of curedand aged Linden wood which has been the choice wood of fine carvers in the Black Forest since the 1870\'s. The clock has a remarkable, blended walnut and color and mahogany finish and is adorned with five, large, ornately carved wood grape leaves on the front. Another carved wooden grape leaf is found on the wooden pendulum. Thecarvings are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy.There is a hand carved wooden bird perched on the right side of the lower case in front and an equally impressive hand carved wooden bird to the left side. A large, hand carved colorful wooden bird sits atop the clock seemingly ready to take flight. There is a wooden balcony just above the dial with wooden scallops on the front and sides. A rotating platform is found just above it complete with four colorful Black Forest dancing couples affixed to it. The dial has a brown center and ablack backdrop on the chapter ring featuring large, raised white Roman numerals to mark the hoursand fancy matching hands to point out the time. Theclock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. The door easily removes toallow access to the weight driven, mechanical movementinside the case created by \"Regula\" and bearing the Schneider name. A weight driven movement simply means that the chainsneed to be pulledoccasionallyto wind the clock, music, andcuckoo activity. Regula makes the best clock movements and Anton only used the Regula movement in all of his high end clocks. The bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opensthe small door near the top above the dance platform and stands in the doorway. He gives off asingle cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding chime inside the case beforeretreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. When he\'ssafely inside, the dance floor begins to turn and the couples spin about while a high quality, \"Cuendet Swiss\" mechanical music box inside the case plays a heavenlyrendition of \"Der Frohliche Wanderer\" (Happy Wanderer), one of the most recognized tunes ever created. When the music stops, the couples stop too and wait until the next song at the top of the hour. The bird reappears at the top of each hour andcorrectly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to thesafe confines of the inner clock. Once again the dance floor turns and the couples spin about but this time the music box plays an equally impressive rendition of \"Edelweiss,\" one of my wife\'s favorite tunes from the Sound of Music! When the music stops, the dancers stop and wait until the next half hour; absolutely fascinating! There is an intact label on the left side of the clock that identifies the song titles, Cuendet manufacture, and Swiss origin. The clock works quite wellhere, keeps good time, cuckoos and animates as it should, and the music is very nice too. We don\'t know the service history so someadjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its newhome. I did, however, find a service date on the inside of the back door: 6-25-12. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least onceevery three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one andkeep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with three setsof attached metal chains, a carved wooden grape leaf pendulum, andthree heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I\'ve looked the clockover fairly well and can\'t find any repairs, damage, or missingpieces. It is a very impressive clock and simply gorgeous on display! It is a large clock too measuring about 15 1/2\"high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 7\" at its deepest point, and about 12\" across thetop. This clock is one of the finest ever made in Germany. It has alot of features and is just breathtaking!There\'s no doubt that itwillturn a few heads when displayed in your home, office, or wherever itis that you care to showcase astunning, high quality, uniquely carved, musical, animated Black Forest timepiece with a wonderful legacy behind it. offer with confidence; I know you\'ll love this clock!
