SUPER RARE 1742 ENGLISH STERLING SILVER LARGE TANKARD WITH SUPERB ARMORIAL CREST The maker is Francis Spilsbury, initials FS & is hallmarked London with date letter g for the year 1742. Hallmarks appear in two places, on the outer top near the lid & inside under the lid. The makers initials also appear in a 3rd spot, on the outer base of the handle. This is good news as it means its the original handle & not areplacement.The superb large engraved armorial crest appears over the initials G.W.D 30-9-42 (1742) There are also 3 interesting crudely engraved initials near the top of the handle, they appear to be SRM. The tankard weighs approx 600 grams & is 17.8cms high. There is a possible very old repair to the handle & the base may have also been repaired in the distant past. Overall an honest, interesting 273 year old antique !! NOTE: Free postage within Australia which includes, tracking, registered & insurance.
