EXTREMELY RARE CASED 1/6 PLATE TINTYPE OF CIVIL WAR UNION SOLDIER W/ BULLWHIP! - The 1/6 plate tintype you are viewing was recently discovered at an estate sale in Seneca, Missouri. I could only find one example of a Civil War soldier holding a bullwhip in all my google searches and also enlisted one of the leading authorities on Civil War photography who has authenticated this image as being an original Civil War image. He explained to me the gentleman in this sixth plate was most likely one of the Teamsters during the Civil War. Although this sixth plate does have damage to the lower portion of the image, I dare you to find a tintype with such spectacular and rare subject matter as the one here on . One thing is for sure, the soldier captured on this sixth plate definitely meant business with his enormous bullwhip and I am sure he knew how to wheal this intimidating weapon, don\'t you? He resides in a paper over wood case containing an absolutely stunning velvet pad with an American Eagle embossed in the center. Here is the rarest Civil War tintype I have ever encountered as a dealer of 19th Century photography and I would consider this cased image worthy of a National museum. Thesixth plate image is wonderfully composed, contains beautiful contrast, tonal range, very nice sharpness, hand tinting on his face and extremely rare subject matter. As previously mentioned in my description, there is some loss to the bottom of the image, however, the damage does seem currently stable. There is some minor dust under the original glass. There are no bends or dents I can see on this plate. The full case has a restored leather hinge, the single working clasp and an American Eagle pressed into the center of the purplish toned velvet pad. Please ask all questions prior to offerding.
