BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED WOODEN BOX FROM THE MID TO LATE 1800\'s
Grain painted wooden box with wonderful patina. The wood appears to be poplar and possibly pine. No dovetails or other sophisticated joining was used; pieces are simply nailed together. I suspect the sides are perhaps leftover doorway molding used in early homes but I cannot be certain. The overall condition of the box is very good. The grain painting shows some wear but this adds to the wonderful patina. 3 original hinges are still present. The original lock is missing. The brass clasp on the front is a replacement. The box measures 12 x 9 1/2 x 5 5/8 in. on the outside, 10 1/2 x 8 x 4 in. inside. Some remnants of red cloth are present on the inside suggesting a lining was once present.
Overall a very nice piece of decorated Americana. The box will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail. Overall package weight will be approximately 6 lbs. Thanks for looking.
