This is a superb Johann Maresch terracotta Tobacco jar, humidor in the form of a male woodcutter figure portrayed sitting on a large log, ofwhich:
During our research we have been informed it certainly dates from the 19th century.
Dates c1880s.
Of an Austrian origin.
Underneath the: Johann Maresch mark and number of 34.
A terracotta Tobacco jar, humidor in the form of a woodcutter male figure in the wonderful dress attire.
Portrayed sitting on a large log with a pipe in his hand.
Two pieces, top & bottom.
Mounted onto the decorative base with an axe.
It has an overall height of about 5.25inches.
It has an overall max base size of about 4.25 x 3.25inches.
Condition: Considering the age, the overall condition is good and is subject to:
a repair to the top of the log centrally with the woodcutter being subject to areas of early restoration to the circumference of the neck & an arm with areas of over painting.
Minor nibbles.
