If you read the simply chateau blog or see the facebook page you will see that I have spent the last few days with the contents of a chateau attic! I am gradually sorting and starting to list it this week.
This magnificent set was apparently hung in one of the boudoir bedrooms.
Dating from the 1880s it is a luscious silk velvet swagged pelmet with two long side \"faux rideaux\" curtains. The original passementerie trim is in place on both the curtains and swags and there are some missing bobbles with age. It could be moved and replaced as required and I am also listing a matching batch of textile pieces in the same textile in myother items.
The velvet is a stunning wonderful quality silk velvet is jade green that catches the light beautifully. In some lights it appears silvery green with the silk content. A very wonderful chateau look.
The velvet is soft and tactile, all very stable and with no deterioration to the silk pile.
The swags and tails that run along the top as a pelmet had been dismantled for packing and I have recreated the look for the photograph with endless pins! They would of course be nailed or fixed in place in a setting and can be gathered and swagged as required. So...I have also photographed the separated pieces.
All are lined with a old yellow cotton. cotton.THE SWAGGWD PELMET.
This is a wonderful confection that is full and frou frou!! There is one main central piece that is to be swagged at each end and in the centre. One small crescent swag overlays the centre and there are two long side tails. There is no wear or loss of velvet pile.
The measurements: ( approx...depends how tight you pin the swags!)
5 feet wide by 18\" feet deep.THE CURTAINS
Each curtain is matching velvet and has a linen band topping which is hidden below thw pelmet swag. Superb condition and again no loss of pile.
The backing is solid on the curtains.
Each curtain measures:
10 feet 4\" long by 2 feet wide.
I have not laundered the set but have beaten them to within an inch of their lives and hoovered them as they are very dusty from storage. They will need to be cleaned and I suggest dry cleaned.
This magnificent chateau set is now such a rare find.
The set weighs 7 kilo.
