The hat of Baron de Neufville

This is a beautiful antique French silk top hat still in its original box that dates from the late 1800s.
A wonderful find! Firstly as it came from E MOTCH CHAPELIER in PARIS who later became HERMES and sevondly as printed on the silk inside is the Baron crown and initials BN or The Baron de Neufville.
The hat is in wonderful condition and looks to hardly have been worn at all.
The silk is rich black with a luxurious pile and the quality is simply superb.
The felt ribbon band is all intact and there is no wear on the brim where the hat would have been lifted - I am sure it is hardly worn at all!
The inner leather band is pristine and still has the ribbon to alter the fitting intact.
The inner is lined with oyster silk and carries the makers details along with their crest and the initials B. N. along with the Barons aristocratic crown.
The hat buffer is still inside the box and it makes the hat so glossy when used!!

The hat measures:
Inner diameter 21.75\"
Height 6.5\" from front brim to top.The box is all strong yet timeworn as the top disc is detached but could be repaired.
It carries the same advertising details on the front and there is an address for the Baron on the reverse. There are various handwritten notations saying Haute de Forme.
Old hat boxes make the most wonderful period display pieces.
The hat would be superb to wear for a wedding, Ascot or similar and is a perfect period display. It would be superb to attend Ascot in a Baron`s hat!!!
