SUPERB ANTIQUE GEORGIAN 18C SOLID SILVER MOUNTED CARVED COCONUT CUP TREEN NR!
I will be selling a large number of interesting antiques including Tribal art, Chinese, Japanese, and European antiques. I will possibly be selling over two days so please check again on FRIDAY as there may be more pieces for sale. PLEASE NOTE: This sale is in GB Pounds Sterling.

This is a wonderful antique Georgian coconut cup, dating to the late 18th Century. It would most likely have been carved by a sailor and brought back and mounted for a cabinet of curiosities, with coconuts being a scarce commodity at this time and still an object of interest. The coconut is deeply carved in its entirety with a numer of geometric designs and the body has then been finished with a silver rim and two silver hearts. It stands on three horse hoof type legs which are typical for the period. Although it has splits (these carry old repairs) it remains a superb example and one for modern day display cabinet.

Postage & Packing For your peace of mind and mine items will be sent fully insured. I will be posting from WEDNESDAY 20TH FEBRUARY to MONDAY 25TH FEBRUARY so payment must please be received by SUNDAY 24TH at the very latest. PLEASE be a little patient with the post - I will get them posted asap but I work on my own, often have a fair amount to post and I do pack carefully.

Any delays by the postal services either at my end or abroad are rarely my fault. Barring incident I post out at the latest 3 working days after receiving cleared payment but sometimes an item is slowed up by a backlog of post or delayed whilst being processed through customs. To give you an idea it generally takes about 3-7 working days within Europe and 9 - 14 working days to the U.S. / rest of the world. If speed is of the essence then I can use a courier (DHL / FEDEX etc.) but prices for couriers start at around £30 / £40GBP for the very smallest object and VERY quickly escalate depending on size, weight and destination. Please note also that there has been a considerable hike in postage prices by the Royal Mail this year. I add on very little, often not enough to cover the packaging materials, so the price I quote really is as fair as possible.

An er has asked about the silver content. This is mounted with solid silver and although unmarked it is of a good quality. Please view the attached photo below to see the acid test I conducted on the underside of one of the feet (first scratching away a small area to confirm that they are not plate). It is not unusual for the silver on coconut cups such as this to be unmarked and of the examples I have had in the past (and I have had quite a few) I would say that more often than not the ones I have come across have been unmarked.
