A beautiful original antique Georgian or early Victorian rare Gentleman\'s Miser Purse in wonderful condition. The hand knotted black mesh purse is worked all over with small glittering steel beads. A Gentleman always carried a purse filled with small coins to give to those less fortunate. Much fun was made of those who carried showy purses with coins of very low value, giving the impression of great generosity without spending very much at all! A Mans purse was larger than a Ladies and usually very dark in colour with a less decorative end than a Ladies purse. In excellent antique condition with no damage. The finish to the beads is good and the mesh is sound, slight age tarnish to the heavy decorative Steel finials. The purse measures 15 inches in total length including the pointed Steel end trims. A super antique accessory.
