Founder of the Surugadai branch of the Kano school, Kano Toun Masanobu is regarded as one of Japan\'smost renowned historicalsumi painters. His works are held in the world\'spreeminent museums including the British Museum, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This exquisite painting depicts a serene hermitage in the mountains, and dates to the mid to late 1600\'s, Tokugawa period. A museum quality work of art,exhibiting sublime balance and harmony of composition and masterful brushwork. Bold, rapidly placedbrushstrokes delineate the overhanging cliff and a variety of lively vegetation, with tranquil mountains rising beyond the mist.See photos above.
