EXQUISITE MUSEUM QUALITYSATSUMAPLATE
Hattori Masterpiece, Meiji Period, c.1890

SuperbJapanese Meiji Period brushwork depicting numerous immortals, arhats, temple children, and bodhisattvas, sublimely rendered and of the quality usually only found in books and museums. The expressive figures, with finely hand painted faces, are dressed in elegant kimonos with delicate brocades, further embellished in brilliant gold. The minute raised gilded detailing is precise and spectacular, and is produced with impeccable taste and craftsmanship. All the elements are of the most meticulous rendering, melding to create a harmonious masterpiece. Of the absolute finest quality, some intricate details are so minute, they must have been applied by a brush with a single hair. Tiny incense censers, lacquered tables, golden shrines, delicate scrolls and fans, pots of peonies, temple vases, etc., all reveal themselves as this piece is carefully appreciated. Too much to list, and utterly sublime. Thousands of tiny golden pinpoint dots swirl in the background. The dish is further banded round with splendid seigaiha and komon patterning. In excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks, it must have takenscores of hours of concentrated hand craftsmanship to produce, then been carefully stored by the fortunate owners for over 100 years. This important example of Japanese Meiji period artistry measures approximately6 1/4\" across andis marked on the underside with the Satsumacrest and gilt Hattori signature.
