SUPERB EARLY ANTIQUE 19C TONGAN FULLY CARVED WOODEN CLUB
I will be selling a very large number of interesting antiques including Tribal art, Chinese, Japanese, and European antiques. I will possibly be selling over two days so please check again on FRIDAY as there may be more pieces for sale. PLEASE NOTE: This sale is in GB Pounds Sterling.

This is a really great antique 19th Century Tongan club. It is carved from a heavy hardwood (around 1.4kg unpacked so just about the heaviest I have had). It is carved the entire length with a wide variety of geometric patterns with one side of the blade having a completely different design to the other. There are too many interesting elements to the design to mention so I am sorry about how many photos I have attached but there is no other way of covering the club and I\'m not even sure I have shown every surface as it is! I particularly like the wave like design to one face of the leaf shaped blade. The carving continues along the handle and the whole piece has a fantastic patina. There is quite a bit of chipping but I wouldn\'t be surprised if this club was actually used in combat as well as having a cermonial purpose and neither would it surprise me if it dated to the early part of the 19th Century. Either way it would certainly have belonged to someone of high rank within Tongan society. A wonderful piece for the collector I am selling it at a low start price and with . Please also cheack out the Native American antiques and superb multi lobed Fijian ula I am selling this week.

Please read down the entire listing for Dimensions, Condition, Postage & Payment Details - most of the information you will need is here on this page but please get in touch if you don\'t find what you are looking for. Condition & DimensionsSome chips to the edges and to the end but a great overall appearance and fine original patina. More photos below and I will attach another couple of the butt next week.

It is about 40.2\" / 102.2cms long and weighs about 1.4kg unpacked.

More than just a pretty picture.  Try Vendio Image & PackingFor your peace of mind and mine items will be sent fully insured. I will be posting from WEDNESDAY 24TH APRIL to Monday 29TH APRIL so please make payment as early as possible. PLEASE be a little patient with the post - I will get them posted asap but I work on my own, often have a fair amount to post and I do pack carefully. I also post in the order that things are paid for.

Any delays by the postal services either at my end or abroad are rarely my fault. I always post out at the latest 3 working days after receiving cleared payment but sometimes an item is slowed up by a backlog of post or delayed whilst being processed through customs. To give you an idea it generally takes about 3-7 working days within Europe and 9 - 14 working days to the U.S. / rest of the world. If speed is of the essence then I can use a courier (DHL / FEDEX etc.) but prices for couriers start at around £30 / £40GBP for the very smallest object and VERY quickly escalate depending on size, weight and destination. Please note also that there has been a considerable hike in postage prices by the Royal Mail this year. I add on very little, often not enough to cover the packaging materials, so the price I quote really is as fair as possible.

UK: Parcelforce 48HR: £15 GBP.

Europe: Courier: £40.

U.S. and Rest Of World: Courier: £55 GBP.Please do not ask me to falsify customs documents, thank you.***Any import duties or taxes applicable are payable by the Buyer. Please enquire with postage queries, requirements or any other questions you may have prior to offerding.***Where possible I will of course combine shipping for multiple purchases (however if, for example, you win a walking stick and a box of some description this wouldn\'t be very practical!).

Payment Details (Important: Please Read)UK: PayPal.
Rest Of The World: PayPal only.
In the event of a recorded/traceable and insured item going missing in the post I will do everything in my power (provide proof of postage and evidence of value, etc.) to assist in obtaining a full refund from the postal service involved.

***Finally, thank you for taking a look at my sale and please have a look at the other antiques I am saleing this week including a superb Chinese jade twin handled cup; a very fine Tongan club with rare designs; several excellent examples of Native American beadwork; some rare Zulu knobkerries, staffs and snuff spoons; some good pieces of treen including figural snuff boxes; a Maori kauri gum head; interesting Japanese netsuke; a fine Indian silver bowl; several Islamic antiques including a Mamluk type box; examples of Napoleonic prisoner of war domino boxes; and many more interesting antiques from around the world.***

I promised to add these photos of the handle end of the club and I meant to put them on near the beginning of the week so I\'m sorry about being so late. As you can see although the design stops apparently halfway through a pattern on the handle the patina at the end is exactly the same, and just as rich,as that on the body of the club so to answer an er\'s question I do not believe that it has been shortened or if it has then certainly not in the last 100-150 years. Please see the photos below.
