The beautiful reeded decoration on both lid and base in combination with gold washed interior have presented an eye catching masterpiece This top quality vinaigrette is a true Georgian antique & 200 years old but still in nice condition and would shine in any vinaigrette/silver collection.A beautiful antique vinaigrette which would be a decent addition to any silver collection. This highly collectible Georgian silver masterpiece has been offered with what so of vinaigrette: silver vinaigrette is a small receptacle to contain scented vinegar used by ladies to ward off faintness. The earliest-known examples in separate form dates from 1492. Such pieces were popular from the mid 18th century, They were made in innumerable forms and styles (such as circular, oval, polygonal, heart-shaped or shell-shaped, and in fantasy forms, such as a shoe, book, watch-case, purse, acorn...) in silver, gold or porcelain, with a pierced metal grille under the stopper or the securely hinged lid to cover a sponge saturated with a scented substance.Fully sterling silver hallmarks: Birmingham 1814. Maker: SP.Samuel Pembertonwho was registered in Birmingham between 1790 & 1819 and is most famous for making top quality silver Vinaigrette and Snuff Box. Sides also have reeded decoration which in combination with the gold washed interior have presented a stylish masterpiece. There is a nice gold washed and hinged grill with beautiful pierced floral decoration. It was made from outstanding gaugeof sterling silver [23 grams]. It has a top quality and is in nice condition after 200 years with only couple of pin size dents that even hardly can be seen in close inspection and just mentioned for accuracy. There are No Split/Hole/Repair/Soldering what so ever. A truly Georgian masterpiece in a very nice condition. Hinges are in good order and both grill and lid close nicely and tightly. Reeded decoration is in superb condition with minimal signs of aging. Gilt [Gold washed interior] shows minimal signs of aging as you can see in pictures.
