This is a fine quality large sized Chinese tea caddy with wonderful painting and gilding of mandarins in courtyards and Buddhist symbols. Extensively highlighted in gold it features 5 different scenes in courtyards, and it has its original pewter tea canister. Lacquered, it has wonderful depth of colour. No key.

It dates from the 19th century. It is in good condition, as regards the painting and gilding but the lacquer has losses along the corners and edges, and some small dents, please see photos. Obviously it has been well cared for, it closes beautifully and there is no warping. A lovely thing!

Heavy at 2kg! It measures 9.75 inches wide (25cm). 6.75 inches deep (17cm) and it stands 5.4 inches tall (13.5cm).
