This is a superb pair of Staffordshire male figures ofwhich:

During our research we have been informed they certainly date from the 19th century.

Date about c1890s.

Umarked but from the Staffordshire factory of: Sampson Smith whose figures are very collectable.

A left and a right.

Wonderful portrayal of the large male figures with:

one titled 6 A.M. cleaning shoes.

Other titled 6 P.M. selling newspapers.

Embossed text to bases with embossed Daily News.

Areas of gilt.

The hollowed bases have an overall size of about 4.75 x 4.75inches.

Each has an overall heightof about 12.5inches.

Condition: Considering the age, the overall condition to both is very good and one is: subject to a fine hairline following the moulding line of his trouser bottoms with:

an early repair around the circumference of his neck where it had come away from the body at some stage.

Both are subject to overall fine crazing with minor areas of loss of colour.

Besides being a very collectable pair, of very heavy, 19th century Staffordshire Sampson Smith male figures, one shining shoes, other selling newspapers, 6 A.M. & 6 P. M. c1890s, both would also look fabulous displayed.
