SUPERB c1889-1919 ROYAL DOULTON PORCELAIN DEWSBERRY HANDPAINTED ORCHID PLATE

Presented is a lovely Royal Doulton porcelain dinner plate. This plate dates to circa 1889-1919. The plate is beautifully hand painted with a large yellow orchid, in a realistic and detailed style. The orchid is a Cattleya Catrina, painted by David Dewsberry. David Dewsberry (sometimes listed as Dewsbury) painted for Doulton between 1889-1919, and was renowned for his orchid paintings. The rim of the plate is gilded and has scroll designs. The underside of the plate has a gilded foot as well, a sign of a very high quality piece. This is a stunning porcelain piece, and would make an exceptional addition to any table.

The best of the English porcelain makers, like Royal Doulton, gild the foot rim of pieces to designate their highest quality work. This plate has a gilded foot rim and is certainly an example of Royal Doulton\'s finest production.

The underside of the dish is signed with the Royal Doulton mark as well as the scientific name of the flower the dish depicts, Cattleya Catrina [sic]. The painting itself is signed D. Dewsberry.

The plate is in great condition. The gilding is in great shape, with no significant losses. The plate rings nicely when tapped. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no breaks, and no repairs.

The plate is about 9 1/2 inches in diameter.
