This is a well-loved and well-used baby rattle from probably around the late 1800s or very early 1900s. This belonged to our great grandmother. It\'s been used for several generations of kids. We are thinning out a few things because we recently acquired more of the estate and can only keep so much. The only marking we could find with a loop is simply STERLING. This has not been polished in decades, and we won\'t do it either. Looks amazing and truly antique in this state, but you may wish to polish it should you choose to actually use it. Did you know that silver has antibacterial properties and that it is VERY HEALTHY for your kids to use a sterling rattle? Silver was used as an antibiotic before the giant drug companies came along. Romans used silver cups because they knew about the antibiotic properties. So much for the health lesson today....
