Offered here is a circa 1940 Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet 4inches long by 2 foot 6 incheswide or 64” x 30” and is in excellent condition. It was hand-woven by an expert weaver on aprimitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and very nicely handspungood quality Merino sheep wool, both weft & warp. This is a good old double saddle with a nicegrey, white and brown bands in the mid field and serrated grey & browndiagonal motifs that frame in the end fields..

We recently obtained this vintage Native Americantextile on a rug hunt here in New Mexico just to offer you here on . It has a very nice weft count averaging 26per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch.The selvage cords are all in original, excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weftselvages are natural weft loop finished around the outside warps. The corners are all four tight, original andin excellent condition. The tassels are all 4 original and in excellentcondition. One corner never really had atassel. There are just 2 short cord ends that were tooshort to tie a knot in. It has not beencleaned, is pretty clean & comes from a non-smoking home.

Both sides are even in patterncolor and shown in photos above. Colorsare excellent in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded and blended natural grayishbrown, dark chocolate brown and ivory white.Complete with lazy lines, this example of old Native Americana is readyto tuck away in your own private rug & blanket collection.
