Here’s a handsome Samoan ceremonial short club whichdates to the early 20th cent. It is carved in a beautiful manner to depict a variety of importantmarine creatures,such as: Sharks, Sail fishes, Tuna,Flying fishes, Parrot fishes…etc. The wood selected by the talented carver is thehighly prized Ifilele (Intsia Bijuga) which has a rich golden brown grain andhigh durability. The fishes, on both sides of the club, are bordered by geometrictriangular designs. The engraved geometric designs and the fishes have somesort of infill (possibly lime which has darkened to almost black, overtime?).

****THIS IS A NICE SPECIMEN TO OWN IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR OFPOLYNESIAN ARTIFACTS.

Condition:

The normal wear commensurate with old age…Some of theunusual infill is absent. The usual small chips, dents & scratches which isalways present on old tribal wooden objects. Traces of nice glossy patina hereand there.

Ex American/Australian collection for many years.
