********Someone bought this and changed his mind, allergies was his reason. It\'s a new reason. A complete set of stereoscopes of 60 is unheard of from my observations and these stereoscopes are of one of the most important and traumatic events in American history, the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. This set is also in color and I am not sure when and how these cards were produced but researching I haven\'t found any other set like this. This is a complete set of 60 stereoscopes of one of America\'s first major disasters, the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. It happened early morning 4/8/1906 and killed at least 3000 people and destroyed 80% of the city, much of it from the fires. The government reported only about 350 deaths, fearing real estate disasters and there might not be a great effort to rebuild. S.F. was only a few decades old, and became a boomtown as a result of the CA gold rush. It\'s strategic location enabled it to quickly become a major city, 9th biggest in the country at the time. About 300,000 people became homeless of the 400,000 people in the area. It is estimated the quake would be recorded in today\'s Richter scale as between a 7.7 and 8.2. Although S.F. was rebuilt pretty quickly considering the equipment and cost then, many people flocked southward into the L.A. area.I have never seen this set of 1906 San Francisco Earthquake stereoviews before, not that I know much about stereographs. Perhaps someone can clear up the difference, if any, of a stereograph, stereoview, and stereogram. I do know that these are sometimes incorrectly called stereopticans or stereopticons on but those are defined as the projecting machines that is used for these. The projector also seems to have been called a stereoscope. Basically stereographs are almost twin photographs but from what I read they are a bit different and the projector will give a three dimensionality to the scene. Any help would be appreciated in regard to these cards and the history of stereoviews. On and estate sales, the projectors are frequently for sale as these were popular family items decades ago. I also read that the projector would show one image and that would fade as the other twin came into view. These photographs that I have for sale were somehow colorized, tinted, whatever. I just read that in 2011 6 true color photographs, THE ONLY ONES KNOWN, of the earthquake disaster were found uncatalogued in the Smithsonian Institute by a researcher. Six months after the quake a man who was a photography pioneer, Frederick Ives, took 6 photographs from a rooftop in S.F. The images developed on glass plates. Don\'t ask me how any of this works. Photography has an amazing history as the first photograph is sometimes cited as one a scientific man took in 1839. Not long after people were experimenting in trying to take photographs in color. I didn\'t think color was possible in 1906 except from tinting that these have to be. I have all 60 stereoviews of the set from 1001-1060, assuming that there are 60 in the set. I could not find any information on these anywhere. The few people who are selling S.F. earthquake stereographs, are selling 1,or 2, or incomplete sets, mostly black and white and the common stereographs with a green background, apparently done by a different company. The only information in my opinion that might be related to the manufacturer is the F1390 on the back of every card. The 60 images show numerous views of both the destruction and also the aftermath of people\'s lives. The photographs\' colors are generally bright, clean and appear quite accurate. The stereographs are on fairly thick cardboard, the approximate thickness of each card is about double a playing card. There is toning, and minor blemishes on the front but all the images look good in my opinion. The cards are numbered in the lower right as well as labeled for each scene that is shown. Curiously, on the back, there is quite a bit of information about the earthquake but also information about other famous earthquakes, S.F. neighborhoods at the time, some of the people who became famous because of their importance during the disaster, the government\'s response, a maudlin description of the events, etc. The backs are toned and some have minor stains but no words have been blotted or scraped, etc. My photography is terrible as it shows distortion of the two images which doesn\'t exist. I have no idea what their value is but I think that they are pretty special. Make a good offer and I will consider it. Shipping will be included in the agreed upon offer or offer. I am not sure how it will be shipped but it will be safe and at no extra charge.
