Santa Claus Head, with Blue Cap. Wonderful 1920s German Glass Ornament.

1920s German Glass Christmas Tree Ornament.

A fabulous head of Father Christmas, or Santa Claus... at least, in my opinion, for the coloration is different and the matte finished face is unusual and so elegant.

Silvered inside, and that silvering is still very strong.

Silver blue cap on his head.

Cap is so different in this color, almost a sky blue.

Matte finished face, which gives him such a realistic appearance.

Also unique is the deep furrowed face, as the mold maker really produced the age and look.

Brown eyebrows.

Black and white eyes.

White beard, with red lips.

Really wonderful, and when on the tree, makes a dramatic statement.

3.50\" and in very good condition.

Thisglass ornamentis from a very rich heritage, and has such a fascinating history. It was produced in the tiny town of Lauscha, Germany. It had its roots in early glass manufacturing in this city in the 1830s. Lauscha is known as the \"Birthplace of the Christmas tree ornament. They are a result of a cottage industry. First, a mold was created of pear wood, then a two part plaster of Paris mold, then clear glass tubes heated in Germany cottages by the fathers and sons. They would heat the glass, and then blow the ornaments. They were silvered inside by the mothers and daughters. Left to dry, and then the women (including grandmas) would hand-paint and finish these ornaments.

Ornaments were stored, and in the spring, the grandmothers (while the others were in the fields) would travel down the steep hills to the train station, where they were shipped to the seaport, and exported to the United States. Landing in New York, they traveled to our homes, and we purchased them. This is a one second summary. The details are just great and I cover them in my books.

There is nothing wrong withthis Germanglassornament. These ornaments being listed today arein very good shape. They arevintage, notreproductions. I guarantee that.

I start all my sales at .99 cents as it is an sale and I just never cared when I went to live sale and thesaleeer started very high, and then spent time backing down to get a offer.
