Scadoxus nutans, perhaps the most unusual species in this populargenus of tropical bulbs from Africa and Arabia. S. nutans is evergreen andgrows typically as an epiphyte at about 900 to 2000m elevation in what littleremains of the montane forests of Ethiopia. Most of the plant\'s mass is leavesand roots, with a relatively small bulb. It enjoys fairly cool nights (around55-65F year round). Grows well outdoors in So. California in shade, withcymofferium mix + peat and generous watering. Spreads by rhizomes. The downturnedflowers will amaze and delight.
