An Extremely Scarce Original H.M Queen Victoria Etching
The subject is Eos, Prince Albert\'s Greyhound
Etched by Queen Victoria in 1840
Shortly after their marriage, the Queen and Prince Albert were taught how to etch by the Artist Edwin Landseer. Etching\'s were produced in very limited numbers and were intended for privatepleasureonly. Each was printed on fine quality India paper and were signed by either Victoria or Albert or both when they collaborated.Examples in private hands are rare and I have added a link to the British Museum who have in theircollectionthis particular Etching. I have also added a link to the Belgravia Gallery who sell examples by Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. There are known to be only 62 plates attributed to Her Majesty Queen Victoria.
The etching is inscribed,\"Albert Del 1834\" to the lower left and \"VR.scult 4/10 1840\" to the lower right.
There is a pencil inscription below the etching that I can partially read,it say\'s,
\"This was etched by Her Majesty the Queen from a drawing after ........ by ..... ...... ofEos Favourite Greyhound of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Etching was taken along to a heirloom discovery day in New York in 1978hosted by Sothebys, the original paper cutting and a hand written note with the appraisal results are attached to the back of the frame,it was then valued at $450-$650.
The etching has also recently been confirmed as genuine by Sothebys of London.

In antique condition, Age spotting to the board with some minor foxing to the plate,the plate has some small areas of rubbing all of which isvisibleon the images provided, In my opinion this does not detract from this veryrare piece of British History.Please Note:The frame and white mount are much later and are only in placeto protect the etching.
