We were so excited to acquire thisauthentic early original military satchel from the Civil War!

Welcome to our store and thank you for your interest in this Scarce Original Civil War Era US Army Model 1861 Cartridge Box Made of Leather with Brass Grommets and Tin Cartridge Inserts. This one was handed down through the generations of one family here in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee; and today it became ours to pass along to a true Civil War historian, collectoror enthusiast!

Size: 9\" wide across the front fold over flap x 6\" high x 2 1/4\" front to back

Weight: 1 pound 4.5 ounces

Material: Full Grain Cowhide Leather with tin inserts and brass grommets.

Hallmarks: None that we could find.

Condition: Rough. Age, use and wear apparent. Leather is thick, dry, stiff and crazing, but the fastening strap is still somewhat supple and works well. Belt straps are secure. The front brass oval US plate is missing and so is the shoulder strap. The cartridge tin inserts are still inside. One tin has a panel missing. Please inspect our photos to your satisfaction prior to offerding or buying as this is being sold in as is as found condition with no partial refunds.

Notes: You can still fasten this to your belt strap, as the loops are good and secure, or buy reproduction shoulder straps if you want to use this for reenactments.Nevertheless, this is asuper scarce find and would make a marvelous addition to any Civil War field gear collection.
