LOUISAGASSIZ(1807-1873). Agassiz was a Swiss-bornbiologist and geologist who taught for many years at Harvard.

ALS. 2pg. 6 ½” x 8”. No date. Noplace. An autograph letter signed “LAgassiz” to T. J. Rich, Esquire.The famous scientist wrote: “Ihave duly received the Caribou & Trouts.I return with my best thanks for the letter, the moderate amount ($20)asked for the first. I am delighted withit I have entrusted it to a skillful taxidermist to mount. Should you be able to secure another specimenwith the horns I would be very thankful if you will forward it to me. As I see your charges are moderate I leave itto you to fix the prices. I should liketwo specimen with horns, one to mount, & the other to make a skeleton. I would be glad also to obtain a couple ofbears & of the different kinds of fur animals that are found in your partof the country. When you come to BostonI hope you will visit the Museum of Comparative Zoology in Cambridge; it isonly half an hour from the Boston State House.” The letter is in very good condition withmailing folds and some staining to the second page.
