U.S.Scott#68S SPECIMEN Series of 1861-62 10¢ Washington HistoricalCivil War OverprintIssue, MINT

The Civil War affected the entire nation, and the Postal Service was no exception. In 1861 the Union to prevent the use of

the Confederate States the use of Union Postage declared all current postage stamps invalid for postage. A new series was

quickly designed and Specimens were sent to Washington for quick approval. This Series of Civil War Issues was only printed

for two years, 1861 to 1862. Printed during the \"Classic Stamps Era\" they have become treasured by stamp collectors and other

Civil War Collectors all over the world who appreciate their rich history. This Is the rarest of the rare, a SPECIMEN of a

Scott#68 yellow-green Washington Civil War Issue 10¢ stamp. This United States SPECIMEN Stamp is extremely RARE and

to say that any 1861 specimen stamp is very difficult to find is an understatement. It is estimated that there is maybe a little

more then a \"handful\" left for collectors to acquire and when found, collectors are locking these very valuable stamps in

their PERMANENT collections. Because of this \"specimen stamps\" are very rare, and these stamps are very expensive and

extremely difficult to find. When ever these are found by collectors they are saved and are handed down from generation

to generation. I acquired this stamp many years ago and it was expensive back then. This U.S. Scott#68S 10 cent Washington

SPECIMEN Stamp is likely, worthmuch more today as prices to acquire these have no doubt gone up from past years and even

finding one ofthese in mint or anycondition is next to impossible.

The pictures you see are from the actual stamp you are offerding on and are an integral part of the description.

In the 1800\'s stamp dealers pinned their stamps to cork boards so their customers would see their \"wares\", hence

the small pinholes on some stamps that are sold today. Also in the1900\'s stampsthat were\"Specimen\"stamps

would have an overprint with an \"S\" or the word \"Specimen\" to makecertain they would not mistakenlyuse these

veryrare and valuable stamps aspostage.

ThisU.S. Scott#68S SPECIMEN Series of 1861-62 10¢ Washington Civil War Issue has no pinholes, foxing, thins,

bends, tears, or any flaws as far as I can see on close inspection. A very fine to extra fine example of this extremely

hard to find specimen stamp. I have been collecting for a long time. I am in my seventy\'s and I am only human.

I do miss things on occasion, so if these tired eyes missed something please email me.

This is the only example that I saw of this date as a\"SPECIMEN\" variety stamp on and I did not find any of this variety

at the many NYC stamp shops I have visited as of the date of this listing. is one of the worldslargest stamp sellers

and if their is not another of this variety on then you would be \"hard-pressed\" to find another Specimen stamp anywhere.

Please make sure you want this \"Mint State,\" specimen stamp BEFORE you offer. I would never have parted with this item and

some of my other items for sale, or those that have already been sold if it weren\'t for the storm \"Sandy\" which destroyed

my home, and car in N.Y.C. Because of this I am selling my valuable items I have collected over the years at discount.

Please buy with confidence as I do accept returns for any reason as long as the item sold is returned in the same condition

as received. Please read my return policy. Purchase means you read and accept my return policy.

Please email me BEFORE offerding if you have any questions. Simply click on the “ask a question” link at the

bottom of this page. I will respond within 24 hours, (probably much sooner). This stamp is a fine to very fineexample as all

margins are showing and the stamp is nicely centered. This stamp is fresh, never hingedand sound as I can see.

Very rare and desirable, 1861-62 Scott#68S SPECIMEN Civil War Issue 10¢ Washington, (yellow-green color), unused, (Mint),

Washington stamp. I buy my stamps from reputable NYC Hobby and Stamp Shops and I ONLY pick the top 5% for quality and

the eye-appeal of the stamp. I alwayspick the \"best of the best\". Because of this my stamps cost me more and are well worth

the extra price forthe quality.I cannot express enough the historicalimportance and the very high potential of monetary gain

of this historic and valuable stamp to all collectors.Expensive when purchased and even more so today.
