A vintage evening bow tie for formal tie occasions.Made of black silk, with a pique texture.Made in the 1950s, but never used. This is a formal single-ender bow tie, of the type generally used in Edwardian England. It almost became extinct as the modern two-winged tie became popular - the type immortalised by John Betjeman as difficult to tie:As I struggle with double-end evening tie,
(A Subaltern\'s Love Song -akaMiss Joan Hunter-Dunn)
The single-ended bow survived until the 1960s, largely in the form of regimental mess dress, but is now quite a rarity. It is no more difficult to tie than a double-winged tie, and it looks smarter, because it lies flatter against your shirt.
The size of the finished bow is 3 3/4\" (9.5 cm) long by 2 1/2\" (6.5 cm) tall.
Cleaning: Specialist dry cleaning required
