Set of 6 Early Doulton Artist Hand Signed Floral Plates
8\" dia, c. 1882-1883.
Very early fine earthenware set with impressed date codes for September 1882 (9=82), June 1883 (6=83) and July 1883 (7=83) and pattern diamond registry dating May 29, 1879, parcel 12. The underglaze printed registration includes the name Doulton. This is rare & very early since Doultons purchased Pinder, Bourne & Co. in 1879 but the title was retained until it became Doulton & Co. Ltd in early 1882.See Godden note p.495 of Marks on English Pottery & Porcelain.
Beautifully painted flowers in color enamels. 3 with brown & 3 with blue rims decorated in gilt with gilt scalloped edges. Two are artist signed by hand on the backs \"WPJ\" and 4 are signed by hand \"Hb\". All have impressed mark with \"Doulton\'s\". Early variant of Godden #1327 with \" \'s \" added. Not listed as such in any marks book known to us.
Short drying fault at underside edge of one - does not come thru & a tiny underside edge fault or small repair on one as shown.
Very lite wear. A fine & rare group.
