$490.55

Signed inscribed card (3-1/4\" x 5-1/4\") by Orville Wright (1871-1948) the first man to make a heavier-than-air, powered flight. The inscription on the card reads: \"To Milton F. Davis, Jr., with my best wishes, Orville Wright\" [Milton F. Davis, Jr. was the son of General Milton Davis, Sr., Army General and Aeronaut during WW1. Milton Jr. later married actress Catherine Dale Owen]. I assume the card was obtained in person. Everyone reading this knows who Orville is, so just a short bio: He and Wilbur built the first successful airplane and made the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight on December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, NC. Orville was the brother who flew the plane during this first flight. He later served as President of the Wright Bros. Co.. , was a founding member of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) from which NASA was later created. In 1930 awarded the first (ever) Daniel Guggenheim Medal for \"great achievements in aeronautics.\" In 1936 elected member National Academy of Sciences. The card has three small punch holes on the left to hold in a small autograph book (no longer present). Not affecting any writing and with wide margins. Card is n very good condition. Buyer pays $2 shipping.
