I\'m pleased to offer this excellent and attractive specimen of Tennantite on Quartz with minor Pyrite and possible Enargite from the Cobre mine, Concepcion del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico. The specimen measures 2.92 x 1.96 x 1.53 inches or 7.43 x 4.97 x 3.89cm and is in excellent condition! This is from the Ron Blackstone (1947-2016) collection of Phoenix, Arizona and comes with a former label from RayCyn Minerals, formerly of Chandler, AZ. I bought the Blackstone collection a short time ago and have been posting items as time allows here on .
These are classics and this piece is especially well-balanced and shows larger than average crystals neatly spaced across the quartz matrix. There is some dark somewhat granular material associated with the tennantite crystals that I have seen described as enargite but this has not been analyzed and is not mentioned on the previous label. Minor pyrite and perhaps a bit of chalcopyrite can be found on the bottom of the piece.
I\'ve always loved these pieces and have actually come into possession of several over the past few years and, for its size, this is the best example I\'ve had from this famous occurrence. Oftentimes, the tennantite crystals are too infrequently spaced across large flattish quartz plates---this piece has the perfect balance desired by collectors and the crystals are larger than average for the mine. This is an excellent Mexican classic and I\'m able to keep the price low as it was part of a large collection purchase and I didn\'t have to purchase the piece by itself!
