This Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity was founded at the University of Alabama in 1856. This badge features the Greek letters above a Minerva and crouching lion motif. Below is a wreath with the letters Phi Alpha. The raised center portion of the badge boasts a black enameled finish which is in very good condition. The badge is framed by a smooth gold border around it\'s perimeter. The back of the badge is fitted with a period pin and clasp and is engraved 4853. This piece was once owned by Julius Pollock, Jr. (1885 - 1966). A nine time winner of the West Virginia State Amateur Golf Championship, Pollock won the inaugural event in 1913, and eight more times in later years. He was a member of the Virginia Military Institute class of 1909; but, did not graduate. The Virginia Theta chapter was founded in 1874 at VMI and became inactive in 1911.

This badge weighs 1.8 grams. The piece measures 23/32\" (18.1mm) long and 7/16\" (10.9mm) wide.
