Wonderful hand-colored and pencil signed and titled etching by artist Cote\' in the style of Art Deco era artist Louis Icart, \"French Dolls\" features a French boudoir scene of a pair of beautiful young ingenues relaxing and amusing themselves with three french dolls, a boy and girl resting against a pillow, and the third, a harlequin, dangling off the edge of the bed from the hand of one of the young ladies. From the beautiful girl\'s feathery, off-the-shoulder gowns, sensuous posture and delightful facial features, one can tell Cote\' was a contemporary and devotee of the artistic style and themes of Louis Icart in the 1920\'s and 30s.
The lines of this print are delicate, but still strong from the plate impression on this vintage piece, which left an oval \"rim\" 1/4\" outside the edge of the image. The hand-coloring is masterful, with pops of yellow, pink and burgundy throughout the scene, to the delicate details of the girls\' hair and makeup, even to the light pink bangle bracelets one has on her wrist. This oval image measures 13 3/4\" by 9 7/8\", with a plate-engraved copyright mark of New York publisher Bernart in the lower left edge; it is pencil signed and titled by the artist in the lower margin, on artist card stock that measures 16\" by 12\". It is double matted in goldenrod over red brick, and mounted behind glass in an 18 3/4\" by 14 3/4\" wood frame with black trim.
