ABOUT THE ARTIST: Raffi Kaiser was born in Jerusalem in 1931. His love of artled tohis studies at the Bezalel Art and Design Academy, in Tel Aviv at the age of twenty. From 1952 until 1955 he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Artsin Paris, and continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy during the years 1955 through 1957. He finished his formal studies back in Paris in 1959. From 1960 to 1962, he lived in the Tuscany area of Italy where he took great interest in, and studied, the Renaissance masters. In 1962 he went back to live in Paris. Raffi Kaiser also traveled extensively. Over a thirty year period he visited China\'slands, the volcanic regions of Japan, the Grand Canyon in America, and Israel\'s deserts.
His art documents the memory of these places in surreal reference. With nohorizon or reference to human scale, Kaiser drives the viewer to a primordial place through an imaginary journey. The art worldtook notice of his talent and importance. Hewas the recipient of prestigious awards, includingthe \"Best Foreign Artist\" prize at Mus\'ee d\'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Raffi Kaiser passed on from this life in 2010 at the age of 79, leaving his legacy of art to be enjoyed for generations.
THE ARTIST\'S PROOF LITHOGRAPH: This lithograph is a wonderful example of Kaiser\'s imaginary vision. Many put this work and others of his into the category of \"metaphysical painting,\" the artistic movement established in Italy in 1917 by Giorgio de Chirico, in which the artist\'s creation uses the tangible- landscape, architecture, figures, and objects as a conduit for their own mindset.
This framed lithograph measures 22 1/2\" X 28 5/8\"overall. The work itself is 17\" x 23\" as viewed inside the matting.The framed work weighs 5.5 pounds. It is hand signed in pencil by Raffi Kaiser in the lower right margin. On the lower left margin he wrote \"E\'preuve d\' artiste\"{or \"artist\'s proof\" in French} also in pencil.
CONDITION: Thelithograph itself is in excellent condition. The frame does have marks and chips acquired over the years, and as seen in the last photograph, the paper backing {which is very brittle from age} has been damaged.
