Solid Silver Afghan / Kabul Mustard Spoon with Lapis inset - late 1800\'s:
$18.61

For sale is a small but delightful mustard spoon dating to the end of the 19th century. The spoon is unmarked but, being of that period when testing and assaying did not take place, is obviously made of silver. The handle is set with Lapis lazuli in a pattern ( see photos ).
Lapis has been around in Afghanistan for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It is mined near Kabul. Around 1880 - 1901, the British kept control of their affairs from Kabul - hence the engraving of \"Kabul AFG\" to the reverse of the spoon handle.
The spoon is approx. 3 1/2 inches in length and has a \"fiddle\" shape which was fashionable in that period ( British influence ). The stem of the spoon is twisted - another fashion statement from the late Victorian era.
It weighs in at approx. 10 gms
