Their role is to bring purity within the community of the evil spirits of sorcerers and the dead. In theLuba society, when a pregnant woman dreams aboutimages of Luba, her newborn is welcomed as a Lubachild and named after the mask. Mothers will then wear a miniature representation of aLuba mask around their necks.
