A large and beautiful piece of Russian Space Porcelain made by the Korosten Porcelain Factory in Ukraine. Depicting a Soviet Cosmonaut during a space walk while in orbit around the Earth.

This piece is completely hand-painted, and fired onto the porcelain body. Not printed.

The ceramic plaque is made in a round shape with a slightly domed center area where the painting was executed. On the back of the plaque there is a small hole on the raised rim for attaching a string or wire so the piece can be hung on the wall. The quality of the porcelain is very fine.

The painting depicts a Cosmonaut during a space walk. He is floating in zero gravity next to a satellite or space station and his hands hold his tether line. There are stars in the background.

Around the edge of the plaque are words hand-painted in large Cyrillic capital letters. I believe they may read (a google translation):

Mid to late 20th century. This mark for the Korosten Porcelain Factory dates from 1962 - 1990 (but maybe was used later, also).

The red printed trademark is shown as # 384a in Volume One of \"Marks on Soviet Porcelain, Faience, and Majolica, 1917-1991\". CONDITION:Good condition, as shown in the photos and with the following noted: Mint condition with no damage or repairs. No scratches or damage to the painted surfaces or the porcelain body.HISTORY:
The Korosten Porcelain Factory is located in the town of Korosten, Zhitomirskiy Region, the Ukraine and is one of the largest producers of porcelain tableware in Ukraine. Founded in 1904 by a Polish businessman T. Przhibylskim. During the World War II the plant was destroyed and again put into operation in 1944. More than 90 years of existence is a valuable experience of mastering the mystery of manufacturing white, elegant porcelain. They manufacture table sets, coffee and tea sets,souvenirs and presents from porcelain. Today the Korosten porcelain plant is a big manufacturer of the porcelain tableware of the world level. Exposition of the best examples of plant products can be seen in their museum in the lobby of the main building.

This piece will be a museum quality addition to any collection of Soviet or Russian Space Porcelain and will display beautifully in any Constructivist, Mid Century Modern, Eames Era, Space Age, Modernist, or Sputnik Style decor.
