Metal
All jewelry metal has been tested regardless of hallmarks, markings, signatures, etc. using ThermoScientific™ Niton™ XL2 Analyzer (Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence).
Stones
Most stones are tested using Presidium® Thermal Gem Tester. Secondary stone testing with a Presidium® Refractive Index Meter II and/or Chelsea Filter (dichromatic filter) are used for testing synthetic gemstones is used for synthetic gemstones when possible.

If we can determine synthetic and artificial gems are present, it is noted. Gemstones without the designation “lab” or “synthetic” due to the design of the piece of jewelry are unknown.
Pearls
SF Goodwill does not have equipment to test cultured vs. non-cultured pearls. We assume that they are cultured in origin. Faux pearls are noted when found.

Amber
SF Goodwill does not have equipment to new/manufactured amber vs. vintage/natural/etc. amber. We assume that they are all manufactured and not natural unless noted.

Measurements
Digital micrometers are used for millimeter measurements.
Standard Unit flex tape measures are used for measurement of inches.
Weight is determined by desktop sized digital scales.

Scale of object is sometimes a penny depicted (if present) in jewelry photos is an indicator of relative size. The penny is 19mm in diameter. The penny is not included in the sale.

All jewelry metals are tested with a $20,000 Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Mass Spectrometer generating X-rays (operated in a safe manner by certified personnel). Magnets will often stick to pins, rivets and springs. A $10 acid test is inferior and not conclusive for determining purity. Thank you for your understanding.
