The artists were in the vanguard of what became known as the California Style, representing a unique convergence of social philosophies, artistic ideals, progressive attitudes and the ferment of the times. The Bulletin audience was primarily employees but it also provided a medium for communicating to select members of the public. The illustrated covers continued for 35 years - from 1913 to 1948 - though photographs were also interspersed beginning in 1938.
