Sterling .925 Silver Trinket Chest, Hallmarked, Birmingham, 1907, Henry Greaves

On offer here is aSterling .925 Silver Trinket Chest, Hallmarked, Birmingham, 1907, Henry Greaves.

My best description of this item is as a \"trinket chest\". Along its length, a flap opens up on each side along an upper hinge. The lifting of each flaps reveals a storage section lined with purple velvet. The chest itself is supported by 4 legs.

With the flaps in a closed position, the chest measures approximately 113 mm in width x 83 mm in height x 88 mm in depth.

The chest weighs 216 g. Please note that this is not all sterling .925 silver as once must take the velvet linings and the non-silver base of the chest into account. Nevertheless, the framework of the chest itself as well as each flap are individually hallmarked as sterling .925 silver.

The chest itself bears the hallmarks confirming it to be made in Birmingham and to have been done so in 1907. Its maker\'s mark corresponds to Henry Greaves. Each flap has the hallmark confirming it to be of sterling .925 silver and from 1907 (they do not contain the mark for the assay office nor the maker).

Please note that the chest does show some noticeable signs of wear. Most notably, one of its legs has become detached at one of its sides, and it is consequently less secure than the other legs. Elsewhere, the chest exhibits ubiquitous signs of surface scratching, as well as the odd minor impact dent. The winning buyer may also wish to give the chest a quick clean/polish as it remains rather tarnished in places. The tarnishing is particularly noticeable upon the underside of the two flaps. Regarding the underside of the flaps, please also be aware that they are rather more gold-coloured than silver. The velvet linings could also do with a clean, as they are a little grubby around their edges.I have uploaded a number of photographs, so please take a look at these to help assess the condition of chest, and do factor into account the aforementioned imperfections when offerding.
