Thisis an antique Russian silver cup which is hand engraved. The body of the cup is in the shape of atapered cylinder and sits atop a convex cylindrical pedestal base. The cup is marked with an assayer punch,known as the chetvernik, which is a single mark containing the silver standardnumber(84), the town symbol, assayer’s initials, and the date year(1890). The bottom of the cup shows the city mark ofMoscow, which depicts St. George slaying the Dragon, which was used up until1898. Tsar Peter I of Russia fixed the production ofsilversmiths to four standard silver purities: 96, 90, 84, and 62zolotniki. A zolotniki is an absolute Russian weight measure and withinthis system there are 96 zolotniki to a troy pound. Thus 84 zolotnikiwould represent 84/96 or 875/1000 parts pure silver.

Thecup is in good antique condition. Thereare a few small dents present, along with some surface wear.
