This is a very authentic and beautifully made Hopi pin / brooch or pendant necklace with a traditional Man in the Maze design. The design is symbolic of man\'s journey through life. It is made in Sterling silver using the Hopi overlay technique (see description below.) Signed with the Hopi picto hallmark of Shannon Lamsonthat represents a quarter sun and stamped Sterling. It has both a pendant loop and a pin on the back; please look at the photos. The design is round and measures 1 1/2\" in diameter. It includes a 24\" 2mm .925 sterling silver-plated snake chain. Hopi jewelry is highly collectible, and this is a beautiful piece to wear is a pendant or pin.
This piece is done using the traditional Hopi technique called overlay. This does NOT mean it is silver-plated. In fact, it is made of two layers of .925 Sterling silver. The artist cuts the design by hand in the top layer using a coping saw. The two layers are then fused together. The artist then tools the texture into the bottom layer and adds the black patina to create the contrast. Please see a video about the technique.
