Very RARE one off Crown Jeweller Stuart Devlin Surprise Easter Egg in Silver Gilt.
Hallmarked for SD London 1969
Beautiful piece with amazing amethyst crystal inner.
This is NOT one of Devlin\'s mass produced numbered eggs - it is a \'unique\' piece - possibly a prototype or a commissioned piece for a special person.
Might benefit from further research.
Most of Devlin\'s eggs are numbered collectors items - each identical egg is stamped with a number... he usually made a couple of hundred or so. My egg is is not numbered - and is also much older than most of his other eggs. Ive spoken to some Devlin experts who seem to think it was an experimental piece - a prototype for a larger piece - or a one off commission for a special client - made in the early days of his London shop.
The egg is 70mm tall and 50mm wide. I am unable to photograph the hallmarks as they are too small. But they are SD (Stuart Devlin) The London Lion and Cats face (Silver) And the Date letter I sloped - for 1969.
